Philipe Kaoká (@philipekaoka) is a visual artist, social scientist, and researcher of popular culture and traditional communities — a “macumbeiro” who brings together art, ancestry, and spirituality. His artistic work, expressed through painting and collage, blends symbols from Afro-Brazilian religions, myths, terreiro stories, and ancestral Brazilian culture. The result is a visual crossroads that serves as both memory and resistance.
As a “story crosser,” Kaoká rescues and reimagines narratives from Indigenous peoples, terreiros, and popular traditions, giving voice and visibility to cultures often pushed to the margins. He is also a cultural entrepreneur: through his online store, Casa Kaoká, he offers eco-bags, sarongs, miniatures, and “cantigas,” connecting the sacred to everyday life in a practical and accessible way. In 2024, he contributed to the scenography of Camarote Portela, presenting 13 works that celebrate his Candomblé heritage and Black ancestry.
